No londo, he shot the deputy ( but he did not shoot the sheriff). Doesn't make for as good a lyric, but.... :)

Good on you, man!
(gotta say I was worried for a moment when I read about an ex-JW who does VO work, thinking of Ted Williams, the homeless guy with substance abuse issues who got help in form of mentoring from Joe Cipriano, but relapsed? Wonder whatever happened to him?)
Anyway, keep on keepin' on!

Rutherford's smear campaign (a must read)
by Leolaia inthere has been some interest recently about the moyle case, and how it may have set a precident in what became the society's disfellowshipping policy.
in july 1939, the chief legal counsel of the watchtower bible & tract society, olin r. moyle, resigned from his position in a protest over conditions at bethel and rutherford's mistreatment of workers.
he did not want to continue living under those conditions and he felt he could effect positive change for his brothers by taking such a stand.

Thanks for the info, Leo. This is like a JW version of 'History Detectives'.
This raises so many more questions, like when did the Society change it's Bethel drinking policy (IF it did: I vaguely remember that my fleshly brother who served in the 70's/80's wasn't allowed to drink while there, but I could be wrong)? Is historical Bethel policy available anywhere? It would be hard to fathom that it would continue after Moyle made an issue of it.
But yes, the smiting and drinking reference in the original accusations of Moyle's letter seemingly were written in the context of the FDS parable.

Yes, but while all those commensal micro-organisms are required for health and life, they aren't actually part of "you", i.e. they don't play a role in determining your personality; hence any others that provide the same function will suffice.
It's the same thing when someone takes a course of oral antibiotics, and they kill off much of the bacteria living in the gut; some will consume probiotics (eg yogurt with active cultures) afterwards to repopulate the gut, but the person's personality doesn't change (unless being constipated without them makes someone cranky!).

Caliber, Einstein didn't believe in a theistic God: that attribution is false.
http://www.snopes.com/religion/einstein.asp
I've always accepted the opposite being indifference, as anger and love are strong emotions that can be evaulated by PET scan in emotional centers of the brain. Indifference is a lack of activity of brain waves in those same areas.
Logic is considered as occurring in different areas of the brain (pre-frontal cortex) than emotions (limbic system); so no, the goal of reasoning and rationalism is to try and make decisions with one's "brain", not the "heart" (in the popular misnomer: we don't "feel" or experience emotions with our hearts. Ancient men in Biblical times believed we reasoned with our hearts, and experienced emotions with our kidneys:that includes Jesus, and even God).

Jwfacts-- More Lies But This Time About The Great Crowd
by Recovery injwfacts has an article that explains why the great crowd must be in heaven.
i am also aware that many of these are the same arguments that stemmed from the 'awakenings at bethel' so my statements are not simply attacks of jwfact's character (since these arguments are probably not original) but rather his copy and paste of what others have said instead of verifying it as 'fact' for himself.. so here are jwfacts arguments:.
1. he shows that russell and rutherford (at some point) believed that the great crowd were in heaven.. 2. each term that describes the great crowd of revelation 7 is else used to described the anointed by the wt.

Recovery, on another thread you said you would follow up on those descriptions of bible inaccuracy that you deemed worthy. This question of creation more properly belongs on that thread. It remains unanswered. But it makes sense to drop it here.
Your response is disrespectful though, that you gave a flip response to KS because you claim there are errors. Incomplete and dismissive.
Only reason I mentioned it here was he brought it up in this thread, claiming that the bible's version of creation is supported by science, a statement that confirms the person knows NOTHING about science and evolution.
The whale example was the first example off the top of my head, where everything we know about whale evolution suggests cetaceans evolved from LAND mammals, who's ancestors in turn emerged FROM the sea; that conflicts with the Bible account (as does photosynthesis, where plants were created before the Sun).
Not that it matters: Recovery has shown a willingness to cherry-pick which points to argue, dismissing and hurdling any he cannot answer. That's intellectually dishonest, and tiresome; I remember why his threads run their course without him returning, ir starting new threads instead of sticking with one at a time (as if he's got ADHD, or has bipolar disorder and takes on the apostates with vim and vigor when he's on a religious manic phase).

Jwfacts, Why Do You Equate Miracles With Magic?
by Recovery ini have a question for the author of the website jwfacts.
as i was reading the sparlock article, i couldn't help but notice something seriously wrong:.
"the bible abounds in vivid fantasy, such as its many celestial descriptions, or the portrayal of warring kingdoms with imaginary beasts.. the sparlock message is confusing, as much for an adult as for a child, as the bible shows that god's followers practice magic, even if they are usually referred to as miracles.

Yeah, their explanation is that pagan wedding practices are OK, since they're currently not associated with false religious practices.
But by that same logic, magic IS associated with false religious practices (Satanism, voodoo, etc), and IS specifically denounced in the Bible, yet playing with toys that contain "magical elements" IS deemed a conscience matter? Even if it borders on idolatry?
Granted, Sparlock the Wizard was the easy case to demonstrate (verboten, as it's 100% magic), but why allow ANY % of "magical elements"?
Better safe than sorry, right?

From a question on wedding bands:
***w721/15p.63QuestionsfromReaders***
Even if it were a fact that pagans first used wedding rings, would that rule such out for Christians? Not necessarily. Many of today’s articles of clothing and aspects of life originated in pagan lands. The present time divisions of hours, minutes and seconds are based on an early Babylonian system. Yet, there is no objection to a Christian’s using these time divisions, for one’s doing so does not involve carrying on false religious practices.
Magic clearly has pagan roots, is associated with religious practice even to this day, AND is specifically denounced in the Bible.
So why are SOME "magical elements" in toys acceptable (per 1994 AWAKE!), considered as a conscience matter? If JWs are concerned with pure worship TO YHWH, they should "walk the walk".
